Pizol news.

Bad Ragaz and the Pizol don't get much attention on this forum, so I thought to fill in a bit.

I did a bit of skiing and shot some pictures at the Pizol beginning of the month. The first day I ascended via the Bad Ragaz gondola. I had never been skiing there so I followed a group of skiers on to the Wangs side which is not so much exposed to the sunny side in the morning. The skiing was surprisingly good and the slopes quite demanding. The second day I took the old gondola from Wangs. I learned this Gondola will be dismantled and replaced with a new one at the same location and similar to the 8 seater at Bad Ragaz and should be ready for the next Winter season. There will also be a lift from the parking at the bottom up to the gondola platform.

Stayed in Walenstadt, Hotel Churfirsten (free parking!) across the street from the train station, very popular restaurant, wood fired pizza oven, good prices and cheerful place) I was genuinely surprised how pleasant it is up there on the slopes and the ski area is relatively large with lots of terraces/eating places, will give you plenty to do for a day or two skiing and hiking as well in Summer I am told, provided the weather/snow are good of course. Would rate the Pizol on par with Flumserberg for a day ski trip. The skiers were mainly from the area and did seem to know each others.
