The Old Head and Charles Fort are two different areas and can't be done in one walk. If you're staying in the town you can take the Scilly walk to Charles Fort and the Bulman. It's a nice easy harbour side walk on a pedestrian path for the most part. You'd need a car to drive out to the old head but it's worth it and you can have a nice stroll on Garretstown beach and take in the famous moving statue at Ballinspittle.
Can Joe Public walk Old Head these days or has the rescued with public money Golf Club still guards on duty??
Still off limits, well was last year anyway. One has to park at the gates and walk the coast from there but not out onto the old head itself.
Didn't think so.. ;-)
You might like to start the Scilly Walk from this one.
There's also a lovely walk along the coast. It begins just beyond Charlesfort (there's a lay by where you can park) and you can walk all along to Lower Cove. It goes through the boatyard and beyond. Lovely to walk along and watch the boats sailing out the Barbour. Perfect to build up your appetite at the Bulman!
