I think you should be able to 'do' Gibraltar in 3 hours or so. I don't know what the weather is going to be like at the Rock and this can be a deciding factor for visits. if there is mist or low cloud over the Rock then you won't want to get to the top. The route from Gibraltar to Arcos is quick using the Los Barrios to Jerez dual carriageway A-381 and then join the road to Seville and drive up a few kms before turning off for Arcos on a newish dual carriageway. But allow 2 hours.
Thanks for the info - we won't actually be there till next month but mentioned Sunday because I thought some things may be closed in Gibraltar or does most of the tourist stuff remain open - and restaurants etc? Also do you recommend parking outside the border and walking in or taking the local bus as advised in some travel books? How about any suggestions for visiting a sherry bodega in or near Jerez?
Plenty to do on a Sunday in Gibraltar. I would park outside in one of the underground car parks - there is one that you will find if driving towards the entrance to Gib on the left side of the road (not the right hand side if there is a queue to cross) and past the Taxi area turn left and look for the entrances again on the left. You can walk through the border control and enter Gib then look for the bus stop "Air Terminal Terminus" opposite the 'old' terminus. Then take a Gib bus - the No 3 bus will take you all the way through the town and to the southerly Europa Point then returns after a short stop. Look up Gibraltar Info on TA or Forum ?
Same for Jerez - sherry.
