Passport for domestic travel

I am an American here for work with the United States Marine Corps. We flew here via military flight so no passports were needed so I didn't bring one. Now that we're here however, I am able to take some time off and am trying to visit the west coast. Will I be able to travel within the country without a passport, being American? I have my military ID and civilian drivers license. Thanks in advance.

Drivers Licence will be fine - most of the time you check in at a kiosk rather than with an actual human. i have not shownID for a domestic flight in the last six years.

Cheers.

So long as you have photo ID such as your drivers license you should be ok enjoy your time off exploring Australia.

No passport required. No ID of any description required in most instances. Some airlines state ID is required but I've never been asked.

Enjoy your stay.

As the OP said, he is in the military. I also once worked with someone who was ex Australian Navy, and they also often travel without passports when travelling on duty i.e. in a navy ship.

Grahame, military personnel do not need passports when travelling on a Ship to a foreign country. Many countries, such as Australia have Official passports for their defence personnel, but this is only used when the defence member is travelling alone on defence duties.
