campervan insurance

I've done some research and have come to the following conclusions in regards to renting a JUCY campervan (https:/…) and rental insurance:

- 3rd party liability for personal injury should not be a concern since its compulsory and included in the rental (Queensland)

- Our credit card does not seem to cover campervans? I called the 1800 and although the person on the phone suggested it might be covered after reading the policy I am not convinced (https://www.cibc.com/content/dam/personal_ba…) pg 15 under Exclusions

"7. Trailers, campers, recreational vehicles or vehicles not licensed for road use;"

In order to try and avoid jucys $30/day stress free excess reduction option (https:/…) I think I might have found another way to insure for less: https:/…register2.php

So what I'm asking is: Does this seem right?

Thanks!

number 7 is vehicles that are not road registered, I think you are reading it the wrong way. The vehicle you hire would be registered for road use.

Does your policy covers you for accidents where you are your fault / negligence ?

Credit card excess insurance can have a lot of exclusions. Trip cover is a specific insurance policy to reduce the excess so would be my choice.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I called again the next morning and spoke to someone who seemed a lot more confident in their answers and campervans according to her are not covered unfortunately, she said as soon as it's a van not just for transportation and the sleeping option is added it's not included. The ok news is that I think to cover us it would 'only' be about $140 though the company I listed. T

You also need to check what sort of bond/deposit the rental company will take/hold on your credit card when using a 3rd party insurance policy. Could be the entire cost of the excess which may run into thousands and be unavailable to you to spend during your holiday.

All the best.

Re: # 1 Disagree Hami. IMO This doesn't mean all the vehicles have to NOT be road registered to be excluded. I'd read it as :

Trailers

Campers

RVs or vehicles not registered for road use.

Re: # 4 Excellent warning from StephenC.

A young friend of mine recently hired a car, organised her own insurance, thinking that the hire car company would deal with them if she had an accident (what can I say?) , had a roo jump out and take out the driver's door ( driving at night in the country). Hire car company took $3k from her bank account (she doesn't own a credit card) which put her in an overdrawn situation. The Bank has frozen her account so she can't get to any money and the insurance company is taking its' time.

OP - be prepared.
