15 day trip around Tasmania

Hi There

We are flying into and out of Hobart in Nov/Dec and wondered which way around to go? Should we go east first or west? Would we be able to get around Tasmania in 15 days or should we only concentrate on one side coming back down the middle? We would like to include in our travel a 3 day walking tour other than that we are very flexible?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

regards Denise

Do a big circle. It doesn't matter which way you do it - a circle is a circle for all that.

Start your planning by reading this page: https:/…Touring.Tasmania.html

You have ample time to do the big circle it describes.

There's more info in the Top Questions on the right of this page.

We have just returned from a 14 day trip around Tassie and went clockwise but met plenty of people who went anticlockwise too. We went from Hobart to Strahan, Cradle Mountain, Launceston, Dolphin Sands (near Swansea with views over Freycinet and Coles Bay), Dodges Ferry (where we based ourselves for day trips to Port Arthur, the Heritage Highway, Hobart and Huon Valley) with one final night in Hobart itself. We stayed at least 2 nights at each stop as we didn’t want to rush in and out of town without fully enjoying it. We didn’t get to see everything we hoped as we took our time and really slipped into holiday mode. We made a list of the places/things we really wanted to see and worked our itinerary off that. We started with the most important to us (so for you lock in your 3 day walk) then build around that. We were quick to realise that what times look good on paper (or google maps) just don’t work in real time over there. Winding roads, multiple stops for photographs etc, sometimes double the travel time, so allow some flexibility in your itinerary.

Yes. :-)

We went anti-clockwise, no idea why. I mean I think some people factor in where they want to be on a certain day (Salamanca on a Saturday for example) but I don't recall any particular reason in our thinking.
