Travelodge at 167 Macquarie Street, Hobart is conveniently located and competitively priced. It's at the other end of the city block from some of the higher-priced hotels, but a very quick walk through beautiful St. David's Park to Salamanca Place and the waterfront. About $100 less per night in mid-April at the moment on Expedia. Hadley's Orient Hotel in Murray Street is another good mid-range option, a little more dated than some of its more plush competitors, but very centrally located. There are some good mid-range restaurants within Hobart's CBD, but most are located in the inner suburban ring (North Hobart, South Hobart, Battery Point). Have a great trip - Hobart is beautiful in Autumn, and not as busy as over summer or during the Dark Mofo winter season.

A minor point: parking is no longer free at the Old Woolstore.

We have recently stayed at St Ives thanks to recommendations on TA and it was great. Arrived to 35 degree temps and the AC was much appreciated. The staff were wonderful and it's within walking distance to the waterfront and the markets.

The new-ish Ibis Styles is also good value out of season. The standard rooms are tiny and the deluxe rooms small but nicely decorated and comfortable and good location. Had a great breakfast too when we went just after they opened.

Another is the Zero Davy apartments very close to everything on the waterfront. Also offers secure undercover onsite parking
