Perth Road Trip

Hi there,

We are traveling as a family to Australia towards the end of the year and will be in Perth around 10th December until approximately 22nd December 2018.

We will be 4 adults and 2 small children (a 2 year old and 5 month old ish by then).

We are currently looking into hiring a 6 berth camper van and trying to see as much as we can in the time we have. We may even arrive in Perth slightly earlier than the 10th Dec - this is a rough date at the moment.

We are looking to do the SouthWest Corner Margaret River - but wanted to know how long everyone would recommend for this part of the West Coast and places to definitely see and things to definitely not miss.

We are planning on then traveling up the West Coast but we are undecided how far we will go as we are definitely returning the camper van back to Perth. So any help, advice and suggestions on what to see north of Perth, realistically how far to travel up and how long to spend on this part of our trip too!

We have heard about free camping spots and would love it if someone could help shed some more information on this and how we can find out some more information regarding these places/ areas. Where they are? Is there power on these sites? Or generally great places to pitch our camper van for the night, recommended camp sites.

Oh and as we are traveling with two very small children any advice, tips and help on this would be great also.

Many thanks

Becky and Dan

Great advice everyone. Thank you.

If you think maybe 5 nights for a Southern loop, how many nights would one suggest to travel North and end back up on Perth as this is where we are flying back to the UK from.

Kind regards

Becky

Well, it depends on what you want to see to the north. Towns north of Perth are strung out further apart than they are down south so there's a lot of driving involved. How far you go is dictated by which of those towns you want to visit.

Thank you everyone for all your help. It really has made up our minds that we are striking off going North with having two little ones with us and YES YorkFoodie after some more research - the drives between towns up north of perth are very spaced out and far apart and we would have only just done quite a trip from Melbourne to Adelaide prior to this, so a more relaxed south west corner loop sounds better for us.

We will have around 10/ 11 days in total.

Thanks everyone. Onwards with more research and accommodation searches x

Kalbarri is about 580km. from Perth with various towns and other things along the way., Denham (for Shark Bay, Monkey Mia etc. is about another , 380km but nothing much really between Kalbarri and there.(Coral/Bay Exmouth are about 15-1600km from Perth.

You basic options are a more relaxed time going up to Kalbarri and back or going up to Shark bay. But you will spend a lot more time driving.
