Cheaper to book online or on the spot?

My little brother will be visiting New Zealand for the first time in May 2018 and the first leg of his trip will include Hobbiton ($84), Glow Worm Cave ($51) and Te puia ($125 for Te Po evening tour). I have heard that sometimes prices are cheaper when booked on the spot, especially in colder months (can't recall where I read that). For a trip in May 2018, will it be cheaper to book online or on the spot?

In my own trip to NZ back in 2013, I managed to save some $ by booking a one-night stay at Distinction Hotel + Hobbiton deal bundle at around $220 :) But apparently now the hotel no longer offers such package. Are there any more economical packages--other than Experience the Trilogy--that he can choose to save money in some or all those 3 experiences? (Experience the Trilogy offers Te Puia day tour and Ruakuri cave at $320 while the 3 tours mentioned earlier only cost $260 in total).
