Wellington to Napier

Looking at a map, it seems that I can drive either on route1 or 2. Rather than drive 4 hours directly, I would like to stop for a snack along the route after 2 hours. I was thinking about stopping at Palmerston on route 1. Do you agree? Or on route 2, stop at woodville. Again, do you agree? Open for suggestions. Thanks

I much prefer SH2. You pass though a number of quaint small towns such as Masterton (which has a surprisingly good Art Gallery) and Dannevirke etc. Just out of Masteron is Pukaha-Mt Bruce Kiwi Sanctuary.

As the Manawatu Gorge Road is closed, going via Palmerston North

involves climbing over the mountain ranges via the Pahiatua Track

or Saddle Road. The later allows for a very close inspection of a

wind turbine. All 4 SH routes involve going through Woodville and

Dannevirke, (unless you are a local and wish to avoid them).
