Hi TA's - I am confused whether to stay the one day I have in CC or Akaroa?
Perhaps this should have been asked in your other thread: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g25511… , so we would have more info on what was already discussed.
If it is the first day of arrival after a long-haul flight, you have been advised not to drive anywhere on your first day.
I'm still not sure we can answer this without putting it into context with your overall plan. I know the information will be there on other threads but understandably you're not going to get others willing to help you to go looking themselves.
Whether it makes sense to stay in Christchurch or go to Akaroa depends on your personal desire to see the attractions of the city or prefer a small seaside village with wildlife seeing opportunities, whether there are cruise ships due in Akaroa, whether you have any more time in Christchurch on your plan, where you have been before, where you are going after this, whether it's one night or more etc.etc.
Can we know the date so as to advise other drivers and emergency services? The OP knows nothing about NZ roads especially the road to Akaroa. I once drove it after driving that day from Dunedin to first pick up a relative at Christchurch airport. I had driven it before but still needed to concentrate. It is a road that need full attention not after a few hours "rest" from an overnight flight. I thought you had been convinced of this on your other thread.
Brian, I believe this is a few days before Christmas. What a tragedy if it resulted in death or injury at that time.
However, I see on another thread OP has decided to stay in Christchurch for the night.Edited: 13 June 2018, 08:33
Flying in from North Carolina I would definately not recommend driving anywhere on day 1. "Tired drivers cause accidents".
