I can't comment on the resorts but the weather in Portugal is always at least 10C warmer than the UK. The average temperature in December is about 17C but we have had periods where is has gone to 23C. The Algarve has lots of winter sun with warm days and cold nights but never cold enough for frost. We also get an extra hour or two of daylight.

As far as location is concerned there is nothing to choose between them as they are on the same road about 200 metres apart with similar facilities. Country Club has a reputation for being particularly wellrun; demonstrated by the fact that many local villa and apartment owners have a week so that they can use the facilities all year round. A car is essential for both unless you plan to spend all your time on site

We have owned several weeks at Fairways for 20 years and absolutely love staying there; for us it is like home from home.

The main difference between the Country Club and Fairways is that the Fairways units are two or three bedrooms, and the Country Club one or two bedrooms. Both are well appointed, but the Fairways units are newer and more spacious and include villas as well as villa-apartments. Fairways units all have a private pool or jaccuzzi, but I doubt you would want to use that in December!

The Country Club clubhouse is larger and more comprehensive than Fairways, with maybe a touch more atmosphere. You might bear this in mind depending on who your travelling companions are, as if you plan on heavy socialisiing and meeting other people the CC might be better.

As for weather, last Christmas day we had drinks on our terrace with friends in warm sunshine, but the days are short and you have to wrap up warm some evenings. There are heating systems in place in both resorts and some units have log fires, but do bring a mix of light and warm clothes. I always travel in a winter coat. It can be a little chilly in the shade even on a warm, sunny day, but on the whole it's delightful, and as usual, we will be in Quinta for four weeks over Xmas and New Year.
