Is Sareema worth visiting if time in Estonia is limited?

My sisters and I are heading to Estonia for 5 days in May. We figured 2 days in Tallin. And because we are knitters, we have to get to Hapsalu and then wondered whether we should spend the rest of our time heading toward Tartu (I understand there's a great museum there with textiles we might be interested in) or visiting Sareema. My travel guide doesn't really say much about Sareema but it seems like it might be scenic?

Your travel guide is remiss. Saaremaa's main town Kuressaare is a pleasant country town with a spectacular castle, a fair beach and a few other sights. It has a small Old Town. Like all vacation towns in Estonia, spas are available. There's a beautiful meteor crater a short way out of town. I'd say Saaremaa is worth a couple of days of anybody's time in the summer.

Here are some pics I took in Kuressaare and around the rest of Saaremaa a few years ago: flickr.com/photos/…

Saaremaa and Muhu islands are worth visiting and there's too lot of knitting things.

Haapsalu is indeed popular for its Haapsalu pattern which is really hard to learn

if you go for islands can also make small circle (possible by car)

early ferry from close to Haapsalu to Hiiumaa (1.5h)

Ij Hiiumaa is place Vaemla and there's old wool factory, with equipment over 100 years and they still produce the wool in old time style and also sell souvenirs, was there last summer and our group of cyclists loved it.

All day time to explore that tiny island Hiiumaa

around 17-18 goes evening ferry from Hiiumaa to Saaremaa (1h)

Stay overnight at some Tourist farm of 1 hour drive to capital Kuresaare and then next leave some time also for Muhu island, visit Koguva Village and nice handicraft shop at Liiva on Muhu island!

thank you so much for the information about the wool mill and handicraft shops - we'll be sure to seek them out when we're there.
