Male attention

As a single female traveller I get a lot of attention on caye caulker. Are there any men in particular to be weary of?

Me. But if you light up a cigarette, I will bugger off.

You deserve a serious reply from a woman. Problems arise in dark lonely areas or when women trust someone they meet and bring them back to their rooms. You are fine during the day, in public areas. Common sense rules.

My wife was cat-called often, mostly when I wasn't next to her. Overall, it wasn't a problem, but there were a couple of skanky, scummy dudes who looked to be up to no good. Just watch your back, keep your wits and don't wander off with strangers, especially after dark. Just like anywhere, there are some bad apples.

I received more unwanted male attention on Ambergris than Caye Caulker. No one bothered me when I was running on Caulker. Plenty of catcalls, sexual comments on AC. No one was threatening or aggressive. I didn’t feel unsafe at anytime.

A friend had a man approach her in a store and ask her something (I don't remember know what it was) and she followed him outside and he exposed himself to her. She wasn't being smart and allowed herself in a vulnerable situation. I, personally, didn't have any issues but I am pretty aware of my surroundings. I had a few catcalls and more "magic brownie" offers than anything. It is really not any different than any where else. Perfectly safe at day, be smart at night.

Good to know! I'm savvy but there's a certain breed of people that can infiltrate if you don't have inside knowledge. Much appreciated!
