Tours whilst in Copan?

I'm hoping to visit Copan in 2 weeks. Are there organized group tours of Copan ruins or other tours that are available to join that hotels or tour agencies in town offer that people can recommend?

Thank you.

There are always guides at the ruins willing to take you around, generally well-informed. It is good to make sure their English is functional of you don't speak Spanish.

There are also tours to the Luna Jaguar Hot Springs, which are well worth a visit, as is the bird park. You can tour information at Via Via, a bar/restaurant/hostel about two blocks from the square.

at the risk of sounding like a broken record (I tell everyone visiting Copan this), even if you're not staying at Hacienda San Lucas, I highly recommend visiting it. Make a 6.30-7.00pm dinner reservation, get a tuk tuk taxi up there around 5.30pm (10 min ride from the town square), sit on the lawn with a cocktail and watch the sunset over the river valley, town and ruins below. Its such a beautiful old Hacienda and the views, birds, grounds, old world ambience and food are outstanding.

We had an excellent guide for the ruins, Mike Vallederes. He was marginally more expensive than the guides at the site but worth it. He was very knowledgeable and spoke English perfectly. (He grew up in the US.) He picked us up at our hotel and when the tour was over, made sure we knew all the other things we could see. His email is jazzomike@yahoo.com.

Make sure not to miss Macaw Mountain. It was wonderful. You will experience the macaws flying overhead though the trees at the ruins but they are up close and personal at Macaw Mountain. You can take a tuktuk there and ask your driver to returnlater. We stayed two hours and could have stayed longer.

There are also two museums right on the town square that won’t take you long to see but are both worth visiting.

Hi, I've spent a lot of time in Copan Ruinas. All hotels can organize tours for you. The ruins are a very easy walk from downtown. Entry fee is $15/person, they take credit cards, and you can hire a tour guide at the ruins (ask for Oscar, English speaking, very knowledgeable). You'll need to pay for the tour guide in Lempiras (give him about $500 HNL. For a more complete understanding of the ruins go to the digital museum at the main plaza the night before your visit to the main ruins. Entry fee is $3.00 USD, they take credit cards. You can (and should) also buy tickets for the ruins here (saves you some time at the ruins). Visit Macaw Mtn. bird park, but go Via Via café and buy tickets there because they provide a free tuk tuk to the park. Eat at Casa de Todo and the Café at Casa de Café. Nia Lola's is also a popular and interesting restaurant.
