Didn't know there was a dress code, it can be cool and I would cover up a bit because of mossies.
I always wore/wear shorts. Wear what you are comfortable wearing.
Generally, my rule of thumb for dinner at camps and lodges on safari is simple: clean.
Anything much fancier than clean, people will point and laugh.

I think you might want to put on long trousers in the evening- for mossie protection and because it cools down, but not because of any dress code.
