City-City long distance bus / train travel in India

Considering a 2 month trip to India, and will do some long haul air travels within India. This time, nothing north of New Delhi yet.

However for some short distances, say between 200 - 300 Km distances between cities, wonder if long distance bus travel is generally available, and if they are recommended. Or trains ?

I traveled this way for about 2 months Brazil, and it worked.

Like to invite opinions from experienced.

Thank you.

For 200-300 Km distances between cities, trains is better than bus (if available on that route). Trains are cheap and comfortable compared to bus.

Depending on the specific sector, you will find that trains are not as frequent as buses. Besides it is quite easy to obtain bus tickets even on the bus while travelling (no need to book in advance). It is very safe to travel by any of the buses run by the state government owned transport companies.
