How to get to Bhaktapur and Patan using public transport

Would like to visit Bhaktapur and Patan on day trips from Kathmandu. (not both places in the same day, but one place on one the day, the other the following day). Is it possible to travel from Kathmandu to Bhaktapur to Kathmandu using public transport? Is it safe/reliable? Also, what about Kathmandu to Patan to KathmandU?

Any advice where I can catch the bus/price/frequency, etc. Wil be appreciated. If i am better off spending more and taking a taxi please let me know.

Thanks.

Hi

Namaste

There are plenty of public transports to Bhaktapur and Patan. These are cheap but crowdy sometimes. If you are staying at Thamel you can get it from Ratnapark [few minutes from thamel]. You can get bhaktapur bus from old buspark or baghbazar costs NPR 30pp and for Patan you can take both tempo or bus from ratnapark itself costs NPR 15pp. It mya take about 15-20mins to patan [more if traffic jam] and about 30-45 mins to bhaktapur [more if traffic jam]

Taxi may be convenient but expensive costs NPR 350- 500 and to bhaktapur NPR 800-1000 [must bargain]

Hope this may help you

Thank you

It is an experience on the buses - I enjoy it but you must be prepared to have plenty of patience!! The public bus park is very busy - practise your Nepali before attempting it!! Worth paying for a taxi - don't go by a meter, negociate the price before. Ask in your guest house where you are staying to give you an average price. You will love both places but also be prepared to pay to get into places - only for tourists!!
