Which shopping mall??

Arriving in October for 3 nights and 2 full days - first visit to Bangkok. We then head down to Khao Lak.

Staying at Chatrium Riverside in Bangkok and the plan at the moment is to spend one day exploring the river (orange flag boats) Wat Pho, Grand Palace etc.

The second day we may want to do some shopping :-) The Chatrium Hotel has a free shuttle boat to Sathon Pier so from the BTS station there which shopping mall (Platinum, MBK .......) would be the easiest to get to and which station do we get off at? Or, would it be just as easy to get a taxi if the traffic is not too bad?

On 2 of our evenings we thought Asiatique one night as it's very close to the hotel and maybe a river dinner cruise the other night. Any thoughts and/or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

My family members like Platinum Mall. MBK is easiest to get to.

It's the start of our holiday so better make that 'not expensive' !! Not really interested in the luxury stores just a good mix of cheap - mid range shops. Thanks

It really depends on what you want to buy or if it is a bit of Window shopping. I would go to Terminal 21 for the looking bit. For lower prices items MBK.

I am not sure on pricing in NZ. I find that International brands are cheaper in Australia.

That said, I do buy shorts, that are over runs or seconds mainly for the US market and they are good value.

MBK would be the easiest. Hop on at Saphan Taksin, and it's a direct run to National Stadium. This lets you off at MBK's doorstep.

MBK is the classic, where a bit of everything can be found.

A Bangkok forum search for river dinner cruise will reveal some very recent posts with recommendations.

MBK.would be my number 1

If your staying Riverside would not waste my time trailing across Bangkok to see the gimmicky expensive T21. Much better malls to be found everywhere in Bangkok. Just concentrate on Siam Paragon, MBK, CentralWorld and Platinum which are close to each other and worth looking at.
