Holiday destination

Hi all,

We are looking for a holiday destination for a week in January. We’ve looked at many places such as Da Nang and Hoi an but they just dont tick all the boxes for us.

What we want:

Quite, relaxing place

Not to busy

A base for day trips

Nice hotel/resort (max $400 AUD per night 3 adults.)

20-30 degrees

Not to modern, but not to old

Not Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh

I now this is a lot but we’re struggling to find a place that fits us.

Thanks for you help!

Somewhere in Australia, perhaps?

January isn't the best month for anywhere north of HCMC.

You dont need to spend $400 a night, thats for sure. Mui Ne or Vung Tau are about the only places that will come close to your needs. Daily temps in January are pegged at 28c. For peace and quiet you would probably need to get a resort out of town, maybe Ho Tram. The resort is modern but a klm away are small fishing hamlets.

Vung Tau has a new ferry service that gets you to Mekong in 2.5 hours

Vung Tau and Mui Ne don't see temps in the 20-30 as the norm, but rather uncommon.

In Jan, the average high in VT used to be about 32.

But lately, it's been a degree or two warmer.

John ,the average weather results are saying 22c min and 31c maximum with the daily average as 27c, sure its get hotter, but it also gets cooler.

It tends to peak around 1.30-2.00 pm and then the wind cools it down

And Im sure with Tommy10 having a home base in Sydney, that he wont melt if it gets 1c above his desired temp range

Maybe Sapa, Mui Ne, or Hoi An acient town, Dalat can be also another choice!

I would choose Sapa or Hoi An if I would like to have day walk since these areas are small and easy to walk, Mui Ne would be a better choice if you want to relax!

Ross,

If you look at the chart from meteoblue, the daily high in Jan for the last two years are normally above 90F (32C).

In 2018, there were days at 97-98F (37C).

When you take the humidity into account, that would add another 2-3C on top.

Being familiar with both VT and Houston - as you know I am - I have little problem with it.

You're probably getting used to it, too.

I don't know if a visitor from Sidney can be as comfortable though, especially as the OP was asking for 20-30C.

Cheers,

John

Asingle-room, Sapa seems nice but its one of the coldest places in Vietnam in January, any other places like Sapa with a bit warmer temperatures?

No. Da Lat is somewhat similar and should be warmer. But it's not warm in January. And that's about as far south as the typical mountain destinations go. Also, whatever pictures of Sa Pa you may have seen, it's not that lush green all year round.

Whoever suggests Sa Pa in January to someone who wants warm weather is either an idiot or a travel agent.
