Traffic jam outside Tan Son Nhat airport in HCMC

Many people would've missed their flights out of HCMC on Saturday night because of a massive gridlock that went half way to district 1 and lasted for hours.

If its raining leave earlier.

Better to have to wait around in an airport than be stuck in a taxi waving goodbye to your international flight home.

Warm regards and travel safe in Vietnam, Dirty Pierre.

I've got nightmares of trying to get to the airport while half the city was under water. Only the jeep we procured was able to make it.

Thankfully, they're building a new drainage system. It's called the metro.

Those Friday and Saturday night gridlocks are diabolical. I always add another hour for that time period. As Vietnamese buy more cars, its only going to get worse.

Every time I go there I notice the increasing number of cars and their arrogant drivers.

They're not necessarily arrogant. I drive cars in Vietnam. If you insist on not breaking any laws you'll never move. My preferred means of transportation is a motorbike.

I have a Vietnamese drivers license for both car and motorbike.

I very much doubt I will ever use the car license.

My bike is too efficient at getting me around than a car ever will.

There was a gridlock yesterday morning due to some demonstration/protest.

I don't know if the two events are related.

This is a travel website, so I'll be brief.

Their seems to be a lot of demonstrations over Vietnam allowing China to set up special economic zones.

Yep, they're happy they at last get to protest against a government, even if it's not their own.

Sarcasm aside, many of my local friends are genuinely concerned.

It's getting really hot and heavy all over the country as we speak.

Biggest ever.

People are getting jailed all over the places.

Over 100 in Binh Thuan (Phan Thiet) in just one incident.

It's all over Youtube.

I've never seen anything like this.

Not the best time to travel VN right now.

I think the government way underestimated this thing.
