Help - Just one day in Hue

We are well aware that much more time than we have is needed to experience Hue, but faced with a choice of one day/night, or not at all, we're going! After following many TA threads, I've become bamboozled and even more confused. Help!

Here's the scenario...arriving Hue late night, arise early as possible next morning and head to Imperial City (walking distance from hotel).

With just an afternoon/evening then available, having left Imperial City, what things would you say are "not to be missed" in Hue? We leave by train the next morning, and who knows, we may never get to Hue again!

For the Imperial city you need about 2 hours so then you should see Thien Mu pagoda, Khai Dinh tomb, Thanh toan village .There are more nice places but those above a best for your time

If you want to make convenience tour please contact Hue Friendly Tours

Aside from walking back to Dong Ba market or to a national pagoda on Bach Dang or over the river to An Dinh palace from the Imperial Citadel you will need transport for most notable sites. You can arrange a car or motorbike tour to pick you up near the citadel to visit some to the tombs, Thien Mieu pagoda, Princess Tran Pagoda, or go further afield to Thanh Toan Bridge. And find a good local place for lunch along the way. Quynh Anh at 140 Kim Long fot bun thit nuong and banh uot, good bun thit nuong at 1 Dao Duy Tu.

Traffic is restricted near the main entrance to the Imperial Citadel but there is a gate on the north east wall and across the moat and street is a Highlands Coffee spot that makes a good meeting point.

Hi there, fellow Kiwi. Like you, we will only have 2 nights and 1 full day in Hue. My suggestion is take a full day tour with someone like "Stop & Go" = highly rated on TA. You will be able to see more, as you will have a driver/tour guide & car with you. They are locals and know the area well and will custom design the day as to what you want to do. That is what we are going to do anyway. The average stay in Hue itself for most tourists is only 1 day apparently anyway, so don't stress. Enjoy the area. When are you planning to be there? We're going beginning of January. Please note that is their cooler time (but hot to us, probably like Auckland's summer). If you go Sept/Oct/Nov, be aware that it can get very hot and you will have to allow for this. Recently it was 39 degrees in Hoi An, which is close by.
