Seaside resort

Hello, we are a family with a 5y.old child and we will travel for 2 weeks in Cambodia next February. We are thinking of spending 3-4 nights in a seaside place, at the end of our travel.

We are leaving the country fkrom PP.We love small, quiet places, with a nice beach, we are foodies, we like to mix with locals (markets etc., but since our child, we take great consideration of safety, of course!) And we hate places with drunken people and very visible trafficking.

Wich place ,by the sea, do you recommend us?Thank you in advance!

Hi,

You are probably better to go to Kep, quiet and tranquil with some nice places to stay. Not much of a beach resort really, but it has been improved in a few areas so there is some sand and Ko Tonsai just offshore has a couple of nice beaches and is easy for day trips. Definitely not a place you will see anything untoward.

Cheers

Based on what you are saying l too would suggest Kep. Its very quiet although the beach is nothing special it would suit a 3 year old and most accommodation in Kep has a pool. If your budget stretches to the Veranda Resort, check it out! The pool is to die for!!!

And Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island) is a great day out. This is the end of the High season and Kep is very very popular with Cambodians and ex pats, so if you are thinking of it, book very very soon.

Hello Xristina,

Well, sad to say, absolutely noting in Cambodia is going to compare with Corfu.

However, based on your posting and the age of your child, my strong recommendation is for Kep.

The beach at Kep although relative small and topped up last year with lost of sand trucked in from many sources, is a very safe beach for young children and much favoured by Khmer families who come from far and wide at weekends to enjoy it. During the week it is almost deserted.

The Kep beach has a very shallow gradient and one has to walk out a long way to swim - hence its attraction and safety for families with young children.

Kep is a seafood town what with its own fishing fleet and crab market so the many restaurants specialise in sea food in all of its forms although other dishes are available.

Kep is far too quiet and boring for yobbos - hence its attraction.

You can also take a 25 minute boat trip to Rabbit Island/Koh Tonsay and the round trip fare, including pick up/drop off at your hotel/guesthouse is circa $7 per adult. The beach at Koh Tonsay is also a good beach for swimming by parents and young children but shelves more steeply than the mainland Kep beach.

All best regards. Ian

Thank you all very much for your replies.Fortunately our son is a strong swimmer, so we are really interested in nice beaches, not necesserly the classic family beaches .We have heard about Otres beach.Would you suggest the beaches around Sihanoukville?

Agree with the other posters..... Kep would be ideal for you.

Quiet and safe for kids. The beach has been improved dramatically recently, so don't be put off by some of the rather outdated pics on many websites.

Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island) is a great day out and a fun boat ride for kids.

Hi,

"And we hate places with drunken people and very visible trafficking"

While you will avoid this at Otres beach it may not be so easy on other beaches or in other parts of Sihanoukville.

Cheers
