Hi all, my boyfriend and I fly to Bangkok on the 7th of January. We have 17 nights to spend in Asia and are currently thinking about a Cambodia/ Thailand combination. We are happy to use a combination of buses, boats and planes to travel between places.
I will have been away travelling for a month and we are meeting up on the 7th so ideally we would like to hit a beach for 2-3 nights after first night in BKK to relax and just spend time together. Angkor Wat is a must at some point. We are on a flashpacker type budget, not wanting to stay in dorms but basic beach huts/ guesthouses we'd be happy with.
Option 1: Arrive in BKK on 7th, fly to siem reap for 3 nights on the 8th, then onto Pnom Penh for a night, Otres beach (possibly, might go straight to the islands... will decide when there), Kampot for 2 nights, Koh rong and Koh rong smaloem for 5 nights, onto Koh Chang/ Koh Mak/ Koh Kood (we will decide closer to the time for 3 nights and then back to BKK for 2... Any suggestions are very welcome as I've not been here before.
Option 2: Ideally as I said we would like to hit beaches/ islands for 2-3 nights on arrival. At present, looking at Koh Kood/ Koh Mak for 3 nights, but then it seems quite difficult/ an ordeal to get from here to Siem reap (12 hours travel)? then siem reap to PP, on to the islands for 6 nights and a flight from PP back to Bangkok for the last few nights.
Option 3: reverse direction of Option 1. Beaches in Koh Kood/ Koh Mak, then cross border at Koh Kong area? On to Koh rong samloem/ Koh rong, on to Kampot, then Siem reap and fly back to Bangkok.
Would welcome everyone's thoughts and any suggestions about:
1. most forward border crossing in these 3 options
2. best use of time
3. which seems most realistic
4. anything we should take out or add in :)
Thanks a mill.
