Three resorts so far...

Woo-hoo! So we just booked the flights for our first Maldives holiday, but most USA agencies are not very familiar with these islands.

We are arriving on 10 April 2019 for 7 nights. The resorts we’re looking at so far are: Kuramathi, Lily Beach & Centara Grand.

Our top priorities are: 1) Excellent house reef for snorkeling & diving, 2) Premium All-Inclusive with quality drinks & DIVERSE dining, 3) A pool & some fun socializing.

Our optional Wish List includes… 4) Whale sharks, 5) Undersea restaurant access, 6) Tennis, 7) Fishing.

We would appreciate some personal feedback on them and/or other resort recommendations. Cheers!

Kuramathi meets your three main criteria plus tennis and fishing. I don't think any of those has an underwater restaurant - those tend to feature at the very luxe resorts.

I've also been to Lily Beach and it has less diverse food, less fun atmosphere and less good reef than Kuramathi, although the service felt more personal. Both have decent pools. I can't remember if Lily has tennis but it's a small island so perhaps not.

I haven't been to Centara but I discounted it when I went to Lily - seems to offer similar attractions but be less well-regarded.

You ar coming a long way to spend a week in the Maldives. AI in the Maldives is not what you get at places like the Caribbean.

I have not been to Kuramathi but it is a very large island with lots of Villa - not my idea of a Maldivian experience.

Out of your choices I have only been to Centara Grand - it has a tennis court, offers whale shark trips and has a number of dining options however you will be told the and where to eat when you arrive. The island is very crowded and once again not my idea of a Maldivian Paradise.

Have you checked with the specialist Maldives Travel agents? Most are based in the UK but we use them all the time.

If you could live without the AI I would suggest Conrad but there would be four star islands that would probably fit your requirements.

You do need to be in South Ari to maximise your chance of seeing whale sharks

We been to Centra Grand and I can honestly say we loved it!

We stayed in a water villa never really saw anyone much during the day although the bar did fill up on an evening when they had entertainment.

Food and restaurants were lovely, depends which package you have as to where you eat.

The spa was amazing.

Two pools to choose from although after the first day we didn't use them with all the snorkeling we found the house reef to be good. But have since been to vilamendhoo and found this to be better.

Would I return to Centra Grand Yeap in a heart beat!!!

Suggest three resorts in seven nights is too many and you would be better off looking at two resorts in the same atoll or one a seaplane away and one near the airport to minimise your travel time. A good agent like Magic of Maldives, Purely Maldives and Simply Maldives should be able to help you get the most from your week. They are also likely to get you a better price than going diect.
