We have a choice between the Sofitel Le Sphinx or Le Meridian Pyramids. Has anyone stayed there recently? The reviews on the TA Hotel site are really mixed...either really good or really bad.

Also interested in restaurants on site at both hotels or nearby.

thanks

We stayed in Le Meridian Pyramids in Nov 2009 .... great views of the pyramids .

Le meridian is a tad closer to the pyramids than Sofitel .... though not as close as Mena House which is in the reach out and touch it league !!

Plenty of resturants incl a Nubian one at Le meridian ..... the receptiion area with a bar and coffe shop makes for great people watching in the evening ... though it may get noisy if there is a wedding.

No complaints about the Le meridian ....

Hi, we stayed at the Le Meridien on the 29 Jan for 3 days, and had a pyramid view room and left on 1 Feb. Thought it was a great hotel, people great and food good. Be warned the pool closed on the 1st for "maintenance", they bulldozed a restaurant around the pool area and are doing extensive redevelopment. It will probably look fab when finished but it was like a bomb site the day we left.

Didn't eat outside the hotel but can recommend the Mediterranean restaurant it was excellent.

Be aware the prices in the "room service" menu looked cheaper than the bar area downstairs, we didn't find this out until we happened to look at this the day we left.

Personally a good hotel and would go back again, very close to the pyramids, Mena House hotel is closer though, sorry can't comment on the Sofitel. Hope this helps, we were apprehensive but really had no problems.

I know it's not one of your options, but...........

If you want to see how 'touchable' the pyramids are from the Mena House, have a look at the relevant folder in my Webshots pics at http://community.webshots.com/user/elaref especially the 3rd last one and the 'bar' shots.

P.S. They were NOT taken with a telephoto lens - there is no need!

Hi there,

Did you make your choice and did you go? If so, how did you find it?
