Can I bring a kitchen knife to China?

I purchased a nice chef's knife in Japan and will be stopping in Beijing on visa-free transit for a few days before heading home to the US. Am I allowed to have the chef's knife in my checked in luggage?

Thank You

I have brought similar things into China with no problems. If you have the space could you bring me a kitchen. Pretty please.

take care with it on maglev/subway/train. Your luggage will get scanned, and they will find the knifes.

It's better to carry them hidden on you while your luggage is being scanned. Small handbags get scanned too.

No problem bringing them in checked luggage. I have. It is true that bags are scanned on subways and trains, and they use metal detectors, so cannot be brought on those forms of transport once in China.

If I the kitchen won't put me over the 23kg weight limit on my bag, sure thing!

If you collect your luggage, use taxi. Not allowed in subway.

"It's better to carry them hidden on you while your luggage is being scanned. " - This just seems like asking for serious trouble. ROFL

Nope, you walk through a metal detector, but it beeps at everybody, and they don't do body searches.

Of course, if you have the complete 24 pc. set that may be difficult.

Here is another solution: leave it at the airport. I am sure they have longer term storage there. You probably don't need all your luggage in the city for just a short stay anyway.

It's such a luxury having a fully-equipped kitchen and access to all my regular ingredients when I'm in England. When I'm there the kitchen is mine, all mine, I tell you. A flat with a real kitchen costs a fortune in Shenzhen.
