10 day trip Bali: Nusa Lembongan - Ubud - ? Where next?

Hi everyone!

This will be my second time in Amazing Bali, last time only 5 days because we went to Lombok.

We will spend 10 full days in Bali. Arrive on Sundag 8.10h in the morning and go back with a nightflight... So 9 nights in Bali.

When we arrive in the morning, I am planning on taking the boat to Nusa Lembongan and spend 3 nights there. Snorkelling, relaxing, nature...

Then we want to go to Ubud. (Any tips for fastest travel to Ubud from Lembongan?).

I was thinking of doing 3 nights in Ubud.

So we have 3 nights left. Any recommendations?

I was thinking Amed, but it looks rather far for 3 nights.

Maybe Sanur? But I have read so many mixed reactions on these cities.

Or just stay longer in Ubud?

What we love: nice places, nice restaurant and beautifull scenery.

We don't like super touristic stuff, photo menus, all night partying (we have had this before ;)), drunk tourists....

Any tips are more then Welcome!

We fly back From Denpasar at 0.35h at night.

Thank you in advance!

Hi Liselotte,

AMED

I am biased as we go to Amed every year and spend most of our time there (this year also Pemuteran, Ubud and Kuta). Amed is popular for diving/snorkeling and chillaxing.

It is a good 3hrs from the Airport (we transfer to Amed directly on landing) so not ideal as your last place.

if you were considering Amed then do UBUD - AMED - "somewhere down south"

Amed is the best place for no nonsense fall in the water snorkeling. Jemeluk Bay and Lipah beach popular areas to stay. Lipah sandier but Jemeluk bay very long, fall in anywhere and snorkel, loads of choices of places to eat/stay.

e.g. we stay at www.kembalibeachbungalows.nl

Run by a Dutch guy who lives in Sanur.

Can only get seafront by booking direct. YOu do get some scooter noise from the main road.

You can also visit Tirta Gangga Water palace (20mins from Amed). It is actually easy to visit it whilst transferring from Ubud (you pass within 1km) and transferring down south you literally drive past the front door.

LEMBONGAN

All fastboat services will include free pickup (and dropoff on return) from Ubud (sometimes only central point Coco Supermarket) and all major "southern resorts" hotels. www.rockyfastcruise.com best company. Also have www.scootcruise.com and Marlin amongst others.

No real fall in the water snorkeling on Lembongan but you can get snorkeling trips with people like www.newbrosurfing.com to Manta Bay and other sits for IDR200k on a group tour.

ITINERARY

Think about changing your itinerary around.

Do UBUD - LEMBONGAN - 'southern resort' - makes easy use of free pickups/drop-offs.

Could choose Sanur. Easy going tourist place. Safe calm swimming beach, sea front promenade with good choice of non-pretentious places to eat. Also main road Jalan Danu Tamblingan plenty of shops/eateries.

No nightclubs. Popular with families and those who want a tourist surrounding but more chillaxed.

ALTERNATIVE

If you want snorkeling and Island and chillaxing YOu could go to the Gilis

UBUD - GILIS - "Sanur or something else down south" easily done.

In general all fastboat companies will include free Bali mainland pickup from Ubud and all major “southern resorts” and free drop-offs on return.

e.g. If staying in Ubud then nearest crossing Point is Padangbai. Crossing takes 1h15

Bookings

You can book directly at offices and Tourist booths in Ubud.

BALI EKAJAYA

Bali Ekajaya is often touted at the Tourist booths in Ubud and “southern resorts”.

Their Gili service (regardless of pickup in Ubud or “Southern Resorts”) is out of Padangbai (1h15 to Gili T).

They include free pickup from Ubud and all major ”southern resorts”. They will include free dropoff on return

Their standard price is IDR450k each way. You can haggle at the tourist booth on price. Expect to be able to get a discount especially if you want a return. People have often got returns for IDR600k.

They have a number of services daily

Boats are completely fine but sometimes their timetable keeping leaves a lot to be desired.

GILIS & SNORKELING

Gili T has a rep as a party Island but this mostly takes place near the main pier on the east side. Get 15mins walk away and you wouldn't know.

You can cycle around the whole Island in 40mins.

On the east side in front of the Danima resort you can fall in the water and snorkel with turtles. Guys on the beach will rent you gear if you need it. Can also get snorkeling trips with locals for 2-3hrs going around the Gilis for IDR200k (haggle).

Can also do a bit off snorkeling off the beach at the north end of the Island.
