Japan welcome Sim, any good?

is the Japan welcome sim easy to use and cheaper?

(previously used Iljimio travel sim from Bic and HK bought sim cards, all seems to be cheaper than buying direct from Docomo in Japan.) Is Docomo fighting back?

Thanks you for any reviews

Just returned from 3 wk trip. Pre-purchased Docomo Welcome SIM Plan M for 1800 yen, no issues picking up at Lawsons, basement of Narita T1. HOWEVER, this was total waste of time and money. Supposedly 500 MB of high speed, +100MB from playing their games, and implied low speed service would continue after that. Phone showed 300 MB used after 1 day (more than I ever use), and at that point service stopped. Visited Docomo store - staff pled ignorance of Welcome SIM program, didn't try to help.

One recommended alternative - visited BIC Camera (stores near major train stations), bought their branded SIM on ILJ network - 1.2 GB for about 2000 yen. Spent a few minutes at checkout, apparently for compliance with govt requirements. Setup is documented but it's complicated (probably the case for any prepaid option.) Get help if needed and get phone working before leaving the store - staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Got full use of 1.2GB over 18 days, then able to recharge online using their "050" app. (Note that you buy credit on the app with Paypal, then buy data using your credit balance.)

Once you get it working, service is fast and coverage is excellent, even in far recesses of the Japan Alps. Overall, a bit of a hassle compared with the rest of SE Asia, but a fair deal.

Can you make overseas calls with the sim? I’m going to Japan in next 6 days with my mum and we still need a SIM card for her and we going for 12 days, any tips too? Lol

Consider using Skype for calls.

You can make overseas calls with any data SIM. Use Skype, put in some money ( ~7 USD ) and you can call any landline or mobile for pennies a minute.

Is it easy to add data? I'll be in Japan for 5 weeks. Any better option for average to high data use?

I found a coupon code which the 2 GB plan will be discounted by $10.

In addition, it seems that this product has upgraded to connect DoCoMo's high quality wifi too.
