Yes I have seen it, by the check in rows, only the odd row has it, so you may have to go look for it. This was in T1.

Why do people wrap up their bags like than anyway? Protect it from scratches, attract the attention of security/TSA?

I noticed it a year ago at Terminal 1 near the check-in counter for Turkish Airlines. I don't know if there is in Terminal 2 & 3 as I didn't notice any.

I'm headed to South Africa and transiting to another country. Wrapping is my hopeful effort to reduce the attractiveness to potential pilferers which seems to be a problem at the Johannesburg airport.

a good secuity measure ..but just be aware that when passing through Customs at your arrival port you may have to remove for inspection ..which then can be a hassle

Don't put valuables in your checked luggage. And do get travel insurance.

And don't pack anything still in its original packaging. Take labels off new clothes and take them out of store labelled bags.

Even with no valuables in bag they still will break the zips and locks. I had my Bag zip loops cut open (tsa lock in place). They took nothing. It's the hassle of sorting out bag repair and the irritation of having your things sifted through by noncustoms people. Bag wrapping at survarnabumi Bangkok airport is great and protects bags from scratches very well. Most airports have bag tampering problems and only time I had an issue was when I did not have bag wrapped.
