I would love recommendations. Which ones? What times? Eager to try these! Thanks.

There are many Hawker centres. It depends on where you are staying. Just to name two of them: Newton (night time) & Tiong Bahru (daytime)

Do check out Old Airport Road Food Centre which is accessible by MRT Circle (Yellow) Line; it is located in between Dakota Station and Mountbatten Station. Some stalls open as early as 8:00am and you'll be able to find stalls open till as late as midnight.

This is a fairly good video introduction

Do note, however, that the closest MRT station to Tiong Bahru Market is Tiong Bahru, not Outram Park.

As there are over a 100 hawker centers in Singapore and everyone has their own preference the list can be quite long also it depends if the are near to you or if you are happy to travel but these are a few of our favorites that we have gone to on multiple occasions -

Glutton Bay

Old Airport Road

Maxwell's

It will be helpful if you can tell in which area you will be staying and your rough itinerary so that we can recommend hawker centres/ food courts near the places that you will stay and visit. There are good hawker centres spread across Singapore. There isn't much point in recommending one at a place far from where you stay or where you don't intend to visit.

As a first time visitor you may want to experience

- eating satays in the evening on Boon Tat Street next Lau Pa Sat

- Gluttons bay by the Marina

- Chicken rice at Tian Tian stall in Maxwell food centre

- East Coast Park food centre by the ocean in the evening

And don't hesitate to try any hawker centre/food court. Prices are very affordable and food is great.
