National Geographic Endeavor II and scuba diving

Hi, I am planning a trip for my 75 yr old mother, 15 year old daughter and myself. My daughter and I dive but this trip is on my mother's bucket list so we will be be doing a lot of non scuba activities as well. Has anyone been on the NG Endeavor II and gone diving? I'd love to know as much info as you've got! How many dives, where and quality, level of divemaster assistance etc.

I know that diving in the Galapagos is more advanced but am wondering how the NG Endeavor II dive sites compare to the further out dive sites like Isla Darwin and Isla Wolf which are only visited by dive live-aboards and definitely seem advanced.

thank you!

Is the Endeavor II actually offering scuba diving from the boat? Or is it an add-on, with a third party?

You're right about Wolf and Darwin--they are quite advanced dive sites.

As far as I know the NG ships do not do scuba diving, just snorkeling. I think you'd get your best information by calling National Geographic themselves and speaking to one of their Galapagos specialists. If they do diving add-ons, they could give you that information, but to my knowledge it's not part of the regular itinerary.

When I spoke to them a couple days ago and asked this exact question, I was told:

1. The best diving is not where they go. There are live-aboard dive boats that provide access to the best diving.

2. You can do diving on the Endeavor II, but not on the Islander. That is consistent with what I have since found on their website.

3. You can do upto 2 days worth of diving. 2 tanks each.

4. It's arranged with a local operator.

5. You would miss other activities. 1 day the person didn't matter that much. However, he did not recommend missing the 2nd day as its one of the highlights of the tour.
