Identification document - Russian trains

Hi All,

When booking my 2 train trips in Russia, there were 7 options for type of ID document in the drop down list, however none of them were "foreign passport" as I expected to see.

The options instead were:

- Russian passport

- USSR passport

- International passport of Russian federation

- ID document

- Seamans passport

- Birth certificate

- Military ID

I selected "ID document" and entered my driver's licence number. Is this going to be OK as identification when boarding? Obviously I'll have my passport on me as well, but it is the licence number I have used when booking, not the passport number.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone with similar experiences.

Cheers, Matt

I called the RZD inquiry center. They said that the driver's license could not be a document. Only the passport.

In this case, you must select the field "ID document".

you must cancel this ticket and buy a new one.

Yes, that's what i would recommend. Cancel this ticket ( its 100% refundable) and buy a new one using your passport number .

I'm having this exact same problem trying to book a ticket on rzd.ru and I wondered if anyone had found a solution.

With reference to Schonefeld's suggestion above, that doesn't work. The problem on the website is that they seem to have removed "foreign document" from the list of ID options when you go to buy a ticket. If you put your passport details in under "ID document" it just gives you an error message when you try to reserve the ticket so telling the OP to cancel their ticket and put the passport details in instead simply isn't going to help them.

Is there anyone who has had some personal experience of solving this problem and managed to book their ticket?

I don't see you having a problem. I was recently asked what document did I use to book the ticket. Of course as a foreigner they may want you to have a passport but she was merely reasonably asking me which document should she be comparing the details in her 'app' to. Once that's compared then you are indeed you (the person on the ticket), and the passport might come next.

You date will of birth will match also - hopefully

What kind of error exactly? Could it be one of those errors discussed in other threads and successfully resolved?

Yes, many people. All you need to do is search for those (very recent) threads.
