need help from panama experts

Thinking about going next March and need some advice/answers:

1. Want to stay on powdery sand beach with tranquil ocean. Where shoudl we stay?

2. Please advise which hotel/condo would be best. Want to be on the beach and close to town, or in town. suggestions?

3. Is Panama realtively safe?

4. Would like to stay in area with some activity. Kinda like a Playa Del Carmen type area. There are 4 of us...2 teens and 2 adults. Where should we stay?

5. How is weather in March? Hot would be fine. Dry?

6. Which airport is do you fly into?

&. Is it prett easy/safe to drive around?

Any other comments are appreciated

Sounds like you should look into Royal Decameron in Falleron. Look at reviews for this resort on this forum.

1. Want to stay on powdery sand beach with tranquil ocean. Where shoudl we stay? There are many options that would satisfy this request.

2. Please advise which hotel/condo would be best. Want to be on the beach and close to town, or in town. suggestions? A resort would be on beach and have activities.

3. Is Panama realtively safe? We visit here often and found the tourist areas that we visited to be safe. The people are so warm and helpful. Just use common sense.

4. Would like to stay in area with some activity. Kinda like a Playa Del Carmen type area. There are 4 of us...2 teens and 2 adults. Where should we stay? Look into Royal Decameron. San Carlos is not far from this resort if your teens want to give surfing a try. Zip line through the tree tops is not to far either.

5. How is weather in March? Hot would be fine. Dry? You should have great weather in March. Bring good sun screen. Light weight clothes. If you go up to mountain region for hike of Zipline you may need a sweatshirt.

6. Which airport is do you fly into? Panama City PTY. There is another airport that has local flights around the country. It would be very easy to split your vacation between two resorts.

7. Is it pretty easy/safe to drive around? Main PanAmerican Highway is fine. Driving in Panama City is a little crazy. You would need very specific directions to make it through the city. Driving in the country side is fine with a good map.

We used Lonley Plant Panama Guide book.

The beaches close to Panama city (where most of the activity is) will probably be disapointing to you when compared to Yucatan/caribbean. The Farallon area (Decameron, Playa Blanca, etc.) is a good option but most of the activity is related to the hotel. The nicest beaches are either remote (San Blas) or not really a "party place" like the Pearl islands. The place that may fulfill your needs is Bocas del Toro, you'll find multiple small hotels in town or in other areas closer to the beaches. If what you want is a large all-inclusive close to a large town, that's not the style in Panama.

Panama is pretty safe. Certainly safer than Mexico and most of the surrounding countries, but as it grows and becomes more touristy, crime will increase.

Panama is hot and humid year-round. The rainy season for most of the country is april-december, but some years (like now), it rains through the dry season. Rains are usually not all day long, but rather a short downpour and then the sun comes out.

You fly into Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama city.

Driving in Panama city is pretty chaotic. Finding your way around is difficult. Taxis are cheap and plentyful in the city. Driving outside of Panama city is pretty easy and roads are quite decent.

Additional comments: Consider doing a split: Go to the beach area of your choosingfor a few days, and then explore Panama city for restaurants and nightlife.

I would say Panama is as safe as Chicago, for sure!

Don't be afraid.
