Use of credit cards

Hi I am trying to decide how much currency to bring to Croatia for our holiday. When in other parts of Europe we tend to use credit cards in supermarkets and restaurants as we would at home. Can anyone say is this OK in Croatia? In Lanzarote we needed our passports to back up our credit cards in supermarkets, is this the same in Croatia?Or would we just be better to bring more currency? Many thanks

We used credit cards at almost every restaurant, but we took out kuna from cash machines to use at grocery stores and souvenir shops, etc.

Thanks for your reply, I think we'll take a bit of a mixture as usual.
