Hopefully someone might find this helpful when considering a holiday during Ramadan, as I must admit that I had been put off over the last few years and I found it a little difficult to get any info about what actually is restricted and where its restricted.
Basically very little effect on our familly holiday.
Hotel - Sofitel the Palm. Food and drink during the day no problem. Even alcohol served during the day. The only minor issues were that the reception coffee shop was closed during the day and the buffet restaurant was pretty much 100% Middle Eastern themed as it was classed as an Iftar buffet
Water parks - No difference at all. Food and drink no problem. Food outlets at the Avenues near Aquaventure were blacked out but open. Plenty inside eating and drinking though!
Malls - Quiet, most restaurants closed during the day, but the food court areas are screened off. Once you get inside the food courts are busy! No difference to other years in terms of what people are wearing. Normal tourist clothes!!
Brunches. Many available, but mainly the smaller restaurant ones. Many (but not a lot) continue to offer the alcohol option.
Roads- much quieter than non Ramadan visit (very noticeable). I've done a separate post on taxi's as I believe that the quieter roads made it much harder for these guys to make a living!
In short Ramadan won't affect your holiday, but still be respectful!!
