Poblado - best area for a tourist with limited Spanish skills, also the priciest section of Medellin.

Tons of restuarants, bars, clubs and very walkable area.

It's not geographically 'central' but Poblado is the easiest default location for first time visitors.

2 main areas for backpackers, reasonably close, in Poblado. Patio Bonito, down the hill, and very close to exito shopping centre and the Metro. Here is for eg the Blacksheep hostel. A bit quieter.

Up the hill, near to Park Lleres and the Provenza area is the other. Closer (ie right there) to the nightlife and restaurants - think Casa Kiwi.

Either way they are 15 to 20 minutes walk from each other.

Jumping in to ask more about above mentioned barrios to rent a reasonably priced, self catering apartment for 2 weeks. Thanks to all you experts.

What do you consider reasonable?

The Afinity Hotel in Poblado has rooms that are like small apartments - with kitchens and seperate bedroom for about $85 /night US

You can check first american realty Medellin or Luho (joined now I think) or Paradise Realty to check for rates. They will be more expensive, however getting short term rents in Colombia is not easy. If their rates are in USD, walk away - should be in pesos and a lot cheaper now in USD terms as the rates have fallen. First American had a bunch of hotel like apartments made in Poblado and 1 in Envigado I think that have their own kitchen etc - sort of like what CDY mentions.

Good info from both of you. We are seeing a range near 70 Euros via airbnb and vrbo, but it'll be instructive to check the rialtors too. Thanks heaps, cdy and bick!

That is about 80 USD right or 1,120 USD? You should be able to get a much better F/N rate than that I would imagine.
