panjim is great morning out..
hop on the free ferry once over the river you will find modern shops.opticians dentist
lots of cafes, restaurants couple of decent tailors.
few touristic landmarks..
and very busy traffic..
i tend to park my scooter up and hop on the ferry...all in all its worth a morning shopping .Reason i go on a morning as it tends to get very hot on afternoons.
We go to Panjim 2 or 3 times every trip. It's 20 minutes or so in a taxi or you can get the bus to Betim and get the free ferry which takes you right to the centre. There is some good shopping. Or you can take a tuk tuk to the Fontainhas area which has some beautiful old Portuguese buildings.
Many shops close between 1pm and 4pm but some places will be open.
If your arriving during the international film festival it's an opportunity to star watch, most Bollywood but some international celebs.
We go by bus as far as the ferry, then get the free ferry across, much more fun than a taxi. Nice to have a look around, if you like taking photos the Fontainhas section has some lovely buildings. Another nice trip is Margao, again we go by bus to Panjim station then get the express bus to Margao, have to get a tuk tuk from the station there to the town centre, has a lovely covered market to look round.
i do not like Panjim City itself but love wandering around Fontainhas, Get the bus from Candolim but stay on it until you get to Bus Station, go to the far R/Hand corner & follow the path you will come to a footbridge over the river, cross bridge then main rd & Fontainhas is up the side streets. always finish with a cool drink & snack on the balcony of The Panjim Inn, very nice.
Hi Mr & Mrs T
We always have a day in Panjim.
Bus to Betim, manic ferry. Walk right from the ferry terminal to the park for a drink at the park's cafe.
Then into town. The covered market is great for photo's from the main staircase. If you have a strong constitution the meat & fish markets are interesting.
We then tend to walk to the main church, then Fontainhas area.
Back by ferry and bus.
Neil & Amanda
But the ferry is part of the fun!
Agree but the bus home from the ferry isn't
