Travel by Ferry to Krabi from Langkawi

Hi

Can anyone please let me know if the Visa for Australians issued in Satun is for 14 days or for 30 days as we are planning to stay for 17 days, so just wanted to make sure before I finalise flights.

Thanks

If you arrive in Thailand by air you will get a 30 day visa waiver stamp; if you arrive by sea/overland you will get 15 day visa waiver stamp. (Its not visa).

Dear Dragonc

If we leave Thailand on the 16th day is that over staying the visa waiver stamp, arriving on 15th October leaving 31st October. Can we get an extention. Thanks for your help.

Yes its overstaying. I think a 7 days extension can be applied at the immigration office in the area where you are staying, but they have the option to refuse it also. If you overstay by one day its not usually a problem, but I think 16th day is actually two days by the way they calculate. Fine is 500 baht per day and a red stamp in your passport. If you come to the notice of police for any reason between the expiry of your stamp and being at the border/airport you might find yourself detained for a few days.

60 day tourist visas are currently free and would save all the hassle.

Hi Dragon.

We have just booked our flights for 75days and have worked out that if we stay in Krabi say for 3weeks and then travel to Koh Lanta for a week, is it possible to go to Langkawi overland if so what length of time can we stay in Langkawi only we want to spend about 21days there because we are meeting up with friends, we want to return then to Bangkok and go to Hau Hin but not sure of the weather, or should be go Phuket we are trying not to have to many flights because of the cost and we would like to stay longer in each place.

If like Thailand we only get 15 days then we will have to fly.

Would appreciate you opinion.

Kind Regard

You don't say when you are travelling. That's obviously important in relation to weather at the time you are at your various destinations. The Dry Season for the Andaman Coast and southern islands is November to May, so you should be OK for Krabi and Koh Lanta then (and Phuket). For Langkawi see the information here tripadvisor.com/Travel-g298283-s208/Langkawi… and for Hua Hin see here tripadvisor.ie/Travel-g297922-s208/Hua-Hin:T…

As for visa requirements, it doesn't matter whether you arrive INTO Langkawi by air or land/sea, so 21 days there is fine. However, you will need to return INTO Thailand, Bangkok or Phuket by AIR in order to obtain a 30 day visa waiver.

So arrive into Thailand by air receive 30 day visa waiver (Krabi 21 days + Koh Lanta 7 days = 28 days, so OK)

Travel to Langkawi for 21 days, OK

Total 49 days so far, 26 days remaining before you leave.

So return into Thailand by AIR, receive 30 days visa waiver which covers you until you leave.

Hi Arandora

We fly out 1st October and it is good that we can go overland to Koh Lanta and Langkawi. As you mentioned we will have to fly out of Langkawi to Thailand. If HH isn't good weather we may stay on Krabi and Phuket coast, Not very good at geography :- )

Thanks for your quick response and info.

Kind regards

Weather in October is not the best anywhere, in October Phuket and Krabi area averages about 350 mm of rain, Koh Samui area 265 mm, Hua Hin area 211 mm.

Ferry from Thailand to Langkawi is from Satun.

Depending on your nationality arriving into Malaysia you will get anything from 30-90 days stamp so no problem.

For Malaysia Australian passport holder according to this you get 3 months stamp

There are no flighs direct from Langkawi to Phuket, Happy Air started but stopped.

You need to ferry or fly or fly to nearby Penang and then Firelfly flight to Phuket.

Or, fly from Langkawi to Kuala Lumpur and then flight with Firefly or Berjaya to Koh Samui, another option.
