Location of Resorts in the Phan Thiet area

This is a February 2012 update of my previous posts in 2010 and 2011 regarding the location of resorts in Phan Thiet.

This description is accurate. This is particularly important to note, as neither google maps nor trip advisor post accurate locations. For example, most of the resorts listed on the Mui Ne page of trip advisor are not in Mui Ne and google consistently shows the names of resorts on their maps up to 25 kilometers away from their correct locations.

Phan Thiet covers some 60 kilometers of coastline. Along this coastline are nine wards. From northeast to southwest, they are Mui Ne ward, Ham Tien ward and Phu Hai ward. In the city center are Thanh Hai ward, Phu Thuy ward, Hung Long ward, Duc Thang ward, Lac Dao ward and Duc Long ward. South of the city center is Tien Thanh ward.

Mui Ne ward has two long sandy beaches, both facing to the east. They are Suoi Nuoc Beach and Ganh Beach. Although there are more than a dozen small resorts on Suoi Nuoc Beach, the only resort that is listed on trip advisor is Full Moon Village. Ganh Beach, southwest of Suoi Nuoc Beach has three resorts listed on Trip Advisor. They are the Pandanus Resort, the Malibu Resort and the Mui Ne Bay Resort. The word Mui means ‘cape’ in Vietnamese. Ganh Beach is on the east side of the cape and the town of Mui Ne (population 22,000) is on the west side of the cape. In guide books, Mui Ne is inaccurately but charmingly referred to as ‘the fishing village’.

West of the town of Mui Ne is Ham Tien ward, where most of the resorts are located. The half-moon shaped 10-kilometer long sandy beach at Ham Tien is Rang Beach, which faces to the south. This is where the Phan Thiet area kite surfing craze began. There are over a hundred small resorts on Rang Beach. Coming from Mui Ne, the resorts listed on Trip Advisor are Suntan Hostel, then Canary Resort, Thai Hoa Resort, Lucy Resort, Hai Au Resort, Mui Ne de Century Resort and Little Mui Ne Resort.

At his point, the name of the street changes from Huynh Thuc Khang to Nguyen Dinh Chieu, although it is the same street. Namkha Villa is in a neighborhood called Bau Me, just above the street name change. Just after the name change is Rang Market, and then Hoang Ngoc (Oriental Pearl) Resort, Hotel One and Ten, The Watering Hole Resort, Mai Am Guest House, Vuon Tra Resort, Firefly Guest House (Not on the beach), Hoang Hai Resort, Grace Boutique Resort, Sinh Café’s Mui Ne Resort, Song Huong Hotel (Not on the beach), Dynasty Resort, Hoang Kjm Golden Resort, Tien Phat Resort, Bien Dua Resort, Bien Nho Resort, Hai Yen Resort, Minh Tam Resort, Salina Guest House, Nathalie’s Resort, Nhan Hoa Resort, and Hoang Lam Resort.

After Hoang Lam, the road skirts the beach. For almost two kilometers there are no resorts on the beach, only a couple of beach bars and the ‘Bo Ke’ restaurants. Across the street from the beach is the Ocean Valley Hotel.

Just past the center of the ‘half-moon’, the street turns inland. The first hotel on the west side of Ham Tien is Kim Ngan Guest House, and then Ve Tam Guest House (Not on the beach) and Lang Sen (Lotus Village Resort). Across from the street leading up to the new highway is Shades Resort Apartments, and then the Windsurf Hotel, the Novela Resort, The Sea Breeze Resort, Tien Dat Resort, Paris Mui Ne Plage, Vietnam Austria House, Joes Garden Resort (Chez Nina), Full Moon Resort, Sunshine Beach Resort, Hiep Hoa Resort, Xuan Nguyen Guest House, The Sand Dune Hotel (Not on the beach), Indochina Dreams, Sunrise Resort, Wind Champ Resort, Hong Di Guest House, Green Coconut Resort, Sunny Beach Resort, Thuy Thuy Resort (Not on the beach), and Suoi Tien Resort.

West of Suoi Tien is Coco Beach, the original resort on Rang beach; and then Saigon Mui Ne Resort, Ever Green Guest House (Not on the beach), Blue Ocean Resort, Dragon Fly Guest House (Not on the beach), C-Cells Guest House (Not on the beach), Ngoc Bich Beach Break, Sunsea Resort, Small Garden and Vinh Suong Resort. Up a small hill away from the beach is Mui Ne Hills Guest House.

From Vinh Suong to the west end of Rang beach is the area euphemistically referred to as ‘Little Moscow’ because there are so many Russian guests here in the winter. The next resort is Swiss Village, and then Bamboo Village, Cham Villas, Bon Bien Resort, Terracotta Resort, Bao Quynh Bungalows, Mia Resort (Formerly Sailing Club), Ocean Star Resort, Unique Resort, Seahorse Resort, Palmira Resort, Nam Hai Hotel (Not on the beach), Sonata Hotel (Not on the beach), Anantara Resort (Formerly L’Anmien), Sea Lion Resort, Mui Ne Ocean Resort, Sand Garden Resort (Not on the beach) and Allezboo Resort.

Phu Hai ward covers a mostly hilly area between Ham Tien and the city center where the Cham Towers are located. Most of the resorts here are built above small coves with their own beaches. The first resort on the east end of Phu Hai is the brand new Cliff Resort and Residences, which is next to the Victoria Resort and across the street from the entrance to The Sea Links Hotel and Golf Course. On small streets that turn off of Nguyen Dinh Chieu are the Takalau Resort, Lotus Mui Ne Resort, Amaryllis Resort, Phu Hai Resort and Romana Resort.

Phu Thuy ward in the center of the city is home to the Palms Phan Thiet and the Novotel Ocean Dunes and Golf Resort; the first resort to open in Phan Thiet. Just outside the entrance to the Novotel, but in Hung Long ward are the Park Diamond Hotel and Doi Duong Hotel, both located across the street from the beach.

Tien Thanh ward covers approximately 20 kilometers of coastline south of the city center. The beaches along this ward face to the east. From the city center, the street goes over a hill before reaching the first resort, which is the Sand Hills Beach Resort, followed by the Golden Coast Resort, Sea Lion II Resort, Sao Mai Resort, Green Papaya Organic Village, Saigon Suoi Nhum Resort and Doi Su Resort.

Ke Ga is south of Tien Thanh ward and is not officially part of Phan Thiet. However, the Ke Ga and Lagi hotels and resorts are listed here as they do not have pages of their own. The first resort below Tien Thanh is the brand new Fengshui Resort, and then the Pegasus Resort (Formerly Hana Beach Resort, which was formerly the Seaside Hut Resort), followed by the Rock Garden Spa Resort, Peaceful Resort and the Princess d’Annam Resort. Ke Ga is home to the tallest light house in Vietnam. Built by the French during their occupation of the country, the light house is very scenic and is open to visitors.

Southwest of Ke Ga is the town of Lagi and the Exotica Playa Resort is on a beach a few kilometers northeast of the town center.
