Best hotel accommodation (for couple) in Takamatsu

We’re travelling to Shikoku to view Setouchi Trienniale in mid October 2013. Is staying in Takamatsu best option to visit islands (west and east side of Shikoku)? Can anyone recommend reasonably priced hotel with shower - as we’re staying 9 days, we’d prefer some room and comforts. I’ve heard Dormy Inn is good. We’ll be travelling by train, prefer central location near station, but don’t mind peace and quiet. Interested in gardens, art, galleries, architecture.

Dormy Inn is a good chain particularly for longer stays, although I personally don't know about the Takamatsu location.

It's just a nicer end of the business hotels, but they usually have a free laundry and liquid detergent next to onsen bath for you to use (dryer machine payable), which is a big plus. They also normally have natural or artificial carbonated onsen in the rooftop or basement, which will refresh you after a long day out (and sharpens you up in tired mornings). They provide good amenities in your room like portable hairbrush, razor, and toothpaste (and in better quality than those of usual budget hotels). Free coffee machine at the lobby, and free ramen snack (Yonakisoba) around 21:00. TV is Sharp Co.'s quality stuff made in Kameyama, Japan (but without English language channels). Breakfast is also normally quite good (though nothing very special) at this chain. If you read Japanese, free newspaper is given each morning for free, too. The downside is that hotel rooms of this class are never big in Japan. I hope your room will be a bit larger in provincial towns like Takamatsu.

Daiwa Roynet Hotel is another upper-middle class business hotel in Takamatsu, which should be nice new and a bit more spacious. "Clean" is my personal impression of this chain.

JR Hotel Clement Takamatsu is near the JR Station, so if you intend to do day trips, this might be a better choice.

There is both a Toyoko Inn and Superhotel in Takamatsu - very quiet, comfortable, affordable, and clean. They both throw in a free breakfast too...although Superhotel had a much better one.

Family of 3 and stayed at the Jr Station last year. No complaints. Easy location especially for the ferries to the islands. We are staying here again for the Setouchi Festival for 4 nights.
