Will it snow 21-30th December in Hiroshima City, Miyajima and Ikunoshima? What should I pack? Will sports shoes be good enough?
Hi,
The chances are high. You will surely need nice warm clothes and sport shoes will be enough but don’t forget some warm socks.
Edited: 6 years agoHiroshima and Miyajima don't see snow very often. I certainly wouldn't classify the chances as "high."
It is unlikely to see snow at that time, so sports shoes are fine. But bring warm clothes as it will be cold.
Chances are low for snow to stick. But you never know. I'm sure you're bringing warm clothes but you just might want to pack some light boots just in case.
Highly unlikely. Last year it snowed in January, for one day. First snow in 23years. If it gets windy it becomes very cold.
First snow in 23 years? Hiroshima had enough snow in Jan 2016 when I was there to slow the trains down considerably. and according to my friend who lives in Higashi Hiroshima, they had snow accumulation just a few days ago. It may not be common to have a lot of snow that sticks around for a long time, but they definitely have snow. Even Nagasaki had snow accumulation on Jan 2016 shortly after I was there.
My apologies if I misled. The time we were there was January THIS year. The hotel staff were as excited as we were because they had some snow in the city. It was their advice I was going on. There is abundant snow on the high ground surrounding the city, but within the built up area it is not so common (so I am reliably informed). On the day we had a fall it was just about all melted by the afternoon. I will be back there in January '18, so I am hoping for another cold (snowy) January.
