Visit with grandkids

Looking for fun and unusual ideas of things to do with our grandchildren aged 10 and 14 when we bring them to Austin and around Hill Country in November. Would like to give them special treats as we have not seen them for a long time. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

I think if you can share a little more information about your grandchildren the board will be able to give you some helpful suggestions?

Boy, girl, interested in history, sports, into hiking, play a musical instrument, like to listen to music, crafty, first time in the US?

Welcome to Austin!

Sorry, they are boys, 10 and 14, youngest likes soccer........we were thinking of taking them to a treehouse and ziplining also, any ideas or recommendations on that would be welcome, thanks! They live in Houston but we live in Europe so are flying over for a month, not seen them for over 2 years so ready to spoil them!

In Austin: Thinkery Children's Museum (https://thinkeryaustin.org/), Austin Zoo (https://austinzoo.org/), State Capital, Lake Travis (depending when you go) (https://www.ziplaketravis.com/), kayaking on the Guadalupe River (https:/…guadalupe-river)

Drive a little bit to San Antonio: San Antonio Zoo (https://sazoo.org/index.cfm), Sea World (https://seaworld.com/san-antonio/), Six Flags Fiesta Texas Theme Park (https://www.sixflags.com/fiestatexas), Doseum (https://www.thedoseum.org/visit/admission/)

You can find some other teen activity suggestions here: https:/…

My 14 year old daughter recommends the Austin Bouldering Project, which has indoor rock climbing.

How about hiking into one of our local caves? Nearby Inner Space Cavern is popular although the closest cave I've visited is further away.

Not sure if you are up to it, but if it's not real cold when you visit, canoeing or kayaking on Town Lake is fun. We also like McKinney Falls any time of the year. Good hiking, two sets of falls.

She has outgrown the Thinkery although your younger grandchild will probably like it.

I highly recommend the Bob Bullock History Museum and the Duck Tour is fun. It winds up in the water on the Lake.

The Museum has nice casual order at counter Cafe and huge gift shop for souviniers

Check the website of Waterloo Records on the date you are in town to see if any muscians are showcasing their music. Families are welcome. It's a record store with a stage area. Across the street is huge Whole Foods with rooftop deck where you can buy all your meal at kiosks, pay for it at cashier, then take elevator up to roof and dine. There BBQ and trimmings is really good.

There are lots of sites where you can look at your date and see what events are going on.

Voodoo Donuts downtown and strolling 2nd Street District and hop on city bus out to the South Congress shopping/dining district. See YouTube videos on everything I listed. Enjoy.

I have not done it, but something I have been looking at to do myself is this

It looks like fun... but not sure on how kids today are on things... I am not that old, but I find historical things like this interesting.
