Medical treatment before leaving a country to get to native...

Hello, my friend is living in Nigeria on a student visa. She's an American citizen. She was doing her project in OBAFEMI AWOLOWO university, but now she had to cancel her project due to financial issues. She wants to get to USA. She got her passport back and got through medical test. In the medical test, it was found she has gallstones. They said she can't travel unless she gets full treatment before leaving. Is it true? Please tell me can she travel or not. They're not letting her travel to her native place.

It's total nonsense..

You are being scammed, big time.

No country stops its citizen travelling because of gallstones... utter crap.

Walk away from the scammer, and don't say you weren't warned!

Health reasons as far as I know is one surest way one can be asked to leave for treatment in the US...

The US embassy won't for any reason deny its citizens visa to US especially if such persons are sick & financially handicapped...I guess its all a scam

Stay safe online bro

As a retired Medical Consultant specialising in Travel and Emergency Medicine for 30 years, I can say with absolute confidence that NO country anywhere can or will prevent its citizens from leaving their country because of Gallstones, and the USA places no travelling restrictions on its citizens suffering from such conditions either..

This is an absolute bvllshit excuse being used by a scammer to extort money from the OP in a dating/romance scam.

They must have had suspicions in the first place to have even asked their question here, so I hope they realise they are being lied to, taken for a fool ,and cheated by their " friend"

It is such a pleasure having you here to advise and answer questions. I'm planning a trip to Lagos in the coming months and I do have a friend who lives Nigeria (but not in Lagos) who will be meeting me at the airport when that time comes. But after reading the comments here, now I'm not so sure that's a trip I want to make. I don't want to disappoint my friend, I'm just not so sure all the hassle is worth the trip. You have any advice on how to handle this? It will be greatly appreciated.

Lex from U.S.A

Hello Lex

I wonder if you have only “met” your friend on-line, but never yet in person?

Have you, by any chance, sent this person money, perhaps for their family’s medical treatment, or some other sudden expense like a funeral or unexpected bills?

Sadly, many African countries have a reputation for on-line “ romance and friendship” scams, and they include Nigeria, as well as Ghana and Kenya.

I would ask you to think about these things, and then to read the following link to the USA Embassy Nigeria website, which gives a lot of information about the tactics scammers use to gain your confidence and how they hook you in.

https:/…

Of course, your friend may be entirely legitimate, and I hope you don’t take my comments the wrong way, but in over 12 years on Tripadvisor I have advised many hundreds of people about scammers and on-line crooks.

Quite a lot of people are embarrassed to have been duped and conned, and very few reply to my advice because they feel foolish.

I will understand if you don’t reply to my comments, and I wish you well. Just so you know, I’m a 60 year old married Englishwoman, a grandmother, and I only took an interest in these matters after a dear friend of mine “fell in love” with a scammer on-line and he took her for £££££££ before she mentioned it to me.

It broke her heart and cost her a great deal of money.

Kind regards, and take care,

Mondial

Good to hear you had intentions traveling to Lagos, Nigeria, but if i may ask, how long have you both known each other? Please, in no way should you get vexed over what has been advised on here, all we doing is simply make people not plunge themselves into this mud called scam. If not too long, I advise not to pay any form of visit
