Old Vs New Rupee Notes - Help please

Hello

I have some Rupees in various dominations - I’m unsure which notes I can still use and which ones are now banned, no longer in circulation. Please can someone clarify?

How can I tell which version of each note I have?

Thanks

Last year Nov 2016, Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were banned, the ban is still in force.

Smaller denomination notes were unaffected. only the 500 and 1000 R notes were "demonetarised". A new 500 R note has been issued, and a new 2000 R note.
