Question About Budgeting for Meals on Tokoriki Island

Hi - We'll be traveling to the Sheraton on Tokoriki soon. What is a realistic per day budget for food and beverage for two adults, activities as well as cab fare to/from the port? We're bringing our own snorkel gear. I pulled up some restaurant menus which seemed pretty comparable to here in U.S. but read some recent reviews which reflected much higher prices. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect so we're not surprised when we get there. Also, we are SPG Members so if anyone can clarify which restaurants the 15% applies, that would help. I did call the main Sheraton number, but they did not know. Some of the info. on their website is confusing. Thanks!

It looks to me that it applies across the board but you must use your discount card at the time of purchase not at the time of payment. Different you say quizzically? Yes the resorts in Fiji mainly work off a cashless system where every thing is booked to your room and you pay at the end but at the end they wont allow you to apply your discount card.

With respect to your other questions I would send a private message to a couple of the reviewers and see what sort of response you get.

Prices shown on menus do not include the 25% Fijian tax which will add to the price. They also mention a 10% holiday tax. Have no idea what that is as resorts we stayed at didn't charge it. The resort also charges a credit card fee.

To help keep the price down, recommend purchasing alcohol at the duty free shop at the airport for having drinks in your room/bure. Coming from the US, you will need an adapter for charging camera laptop batteries, etc. We also take a power converter, and small power strip for charging more than one battery at the same time. Have a look at the following for other suggestions of what to take with you:

Thank you for the information. It was probably the tax that made the food prices seem higher than what I had calculated.

Thanks for the tips!

You're welcome callsyd. Glad to help. If the tax isn't included, definitely makes it more expensive. Some resorts include it for meals/drinks some don't. Same for activities.

You will need FD for a taxi. Should be around 30FJD from the airport to the Port. However, the yellow taxis cannot pick up from Denarau. Denarau cabs to the airport cost about 45FJD. Will get a much better money exchange rate at the Western Union office at the airport in Nadi than at LAX.

Have a wonderful vacation.. :)

Forgot to mention be sure to confirm the price with the driver before getting in the cab. The money exchange office is open for all arriving/departing flights.
