My wife and I with two teenage boys (19 and 17) are spending three nights in Ballito in two weeks time. Greatful for advice on the best things to do and good places to eat. I hope its nice and warm in SA because this summer in the UK is a wash out so far! Thank You

Hi John d, got a list of things close to Ballito on our website. Go to http://www.thesaffronhouse.co.za/area.php. There is also the Moses Mabhida stadium http://www.mmstadium.com/ which I haven't put on yet.

Enjoy your stay in our area.

Try the wave rider at gateway shopping mall. They can either learn to surf on the small one (or go through the wash cycle on the big one!) leaving you to a little retail. Surf lessons are also available on the beach by Ushaka in Durban. There are also kite surfing opportunities.

Hi am in Durban at the moment - the weather is fantastic - was at the beach on Sunday and many people swimming and surfing, so I can imagine you will love it (yes even in winter!).

Hi John

I’m in Ballito in July so also hoping for good weather. I go almost every year to Ballito in July/Aug and based on past experience the whether ther has always been better than what we have in the UK in summer. So here is hoping…

Any case – things to do.

Ushaka is worth a visit. When you there do the Scuba and/or snorkel dive in the aquarium. Snorkel you organize and pay at the Aquarium. Scub there is a dive shop in the Ushaka complex. I did it last time with my son and it was excellent. They also do a shark cage dive at Ushaka. Haven’t done it but getting close and personal with a shark has to be good. While you there and if the budget allows have dinner at Moyo. Its not cheap but on pounds it not that bad. moyo.co.za/restaurant-moyo-ushaka/map.aspx

Gateway Shopping Centre (Umhalanga) – The WaveHouse – If your boys are into Skateboarding there is a fantastic skateboard park there. There is also a wave machine where you can try boogie boarding. http://www.gatewayworld.co.za/wavehouse.htm

It should be warm enough to hit the beach. Coming from Edinburg the Indian Ocean may feel like a warm bath. The Beach at Ballito is quiet, big and if you can get your hands on a fishing rod has some great fishing.. For a more lively beach for your sons head to Umhalanga. Also they might find some night life if it matters.

Drinks on the Sun Deck at the Salt Rock Hotel – Don’t eat dinner there. The buffet is not worth it but sundowners on the deck. You can see if you spot any Dolphins.

Sibaya Casino - suninternational.com/Destinations/Casinos/Si… Good for a bit of gambling and spending the afternoon or evening.

Shark dissections at the KwaZulu Natal Sharks Board – very good.
