Sedona vacation

My husband and I are wanting to travel to Sedona. We are thinking about going in late December for about 5 days. He has never been before and is interested in also seeing the Grand Canyon. It has been years since I have been but I just fell in love with the beauty and peacefulness. Will late December be too cold to really experience Sedona? Any recommendations on an itinerary- things to do, places to stay would be great. We are definitely up for a lot of relaxing- spas, and the serenity of the area as we both really need to recharge our batteries but also gentle hiking and exploring the region is a must. I'd prefer to stay in a secluded boutique type hotel rather than a chain and we will have a car as we will fly into Phoenix and drive.

We could put this trip off till spring if it would be a better time of year weather wise. Thanks so much for any help!

There's never a bad time to visit Sedona. Weather in December is usually clear with day time highs in the 50-60s and chilly nights with temps in the 20s. Great hiking and sight seeing weather.

Sedona's B&Bs offer what you seem to be asking for. Go to http://www.visitsedona.com and follow the links to a great list of B&B choices.

A day trip to the GCNP is a popular activity from Sedona, although I always recommend staying the night inside the park to get the most out of a GC visit.

It is a beautiful time of year, although it may be cold especially at night and in the early morning. Most likely it will warm up considerably during the day and be sunny.

Thanks Red Rox! If you could stay anywhere, where would you recommend? I've looked at the website that you recommended, and there are many nice choices. Also, do you have a suggested itinerary for a 4 night, 5 day trip including travel time to and from Phoenix?

You're asking me for my personal choices which may or may not be the same as yours, but here's my answer.

Plan one night at the El Tovar Hotel at the Grand Canyon NP, and the balance at one of my three top choices for lodging in Sedona. If a full service hotel spa is what you want, then Enchantment would be the place.MY DW and I prefer B&Bs when we can find good ones, and Adobe Grand Villas is our favorite in Sedona. Boots & Saddles would be a good option too. The GCNP night should fall somewhere in the middle of the vacation plan. So 1-2 nights in Sedona, followed by a night at the GC and then another night or two in Sedona.

For activity ideas look at the Itineraries on the right hand column of this page. The weekend plan can be modified so that it includes the must dos along with spa time or hikes and relaxation.
