The drive from where you will be to Hot Springs is over two hours, and it's on State highways, some two-lane. Watch for speed traps. Downtown El Dorado is historic and somewhat attractive. There are some little shops and restaurants. I wouldn't call it a major tourist draw, but it's nicer than most small towns in the area. Murphy Oil has been a major force in El Dorado, even offering free college education to grads of the high school. If history grabs you, there is a natural resources museum www.amnr.org in Smackover which traces the oil boom of the area, and further west, Old Washington State Park is interesting. www.historicwashingtonstatepark.com
