Arrive at SFO around noon. Where should we stop for lunch on way to Guerneville?
Since you're coming from Atlanta noon here will be 3PM your time.
What's your timeline when you get to Guerneville? Do you have dinner reservations for that night?
You might consider getting something to eat on the plane and then simply getting to Guerneville as soon as possible. From SFO to Guerneville requires quite a bit or urban driving. Doing it at mid-day will be much more pleasurable.
What day of the week? Some afternoons the commute traffic starts at 3 and you want to be north of Santa Rosa by then. Construction on 101 creates big traffic delays between Novato and Santa Rosa.
Thanks for the suggestion. Agreed.
I, too, would eat on the plane and wait until Guerneville to avoid traffic. (OR. See below)
You can avoid the traffic between Novato and Santa Rosa by taking another route...over to the coast from Petaluma and then up to Guerneville. This adds about 10 miles to the trip, but there is no traffic on the Bodega Highway or Hwy 1, thus saving time, and it is a pretty drive.
In this case, since you would be crossing the town of Petaluma, there are some nice places to eat there. This would probably be less than an hour and a half from the time you pick up your car at the airport.
From the Golden Gate Bridge to Guerneville by this route is 81 miles. Going to Santa Rosa and then over is 72.
The following is a suggested "Day Trip" from the city. It goes on the route from Petaluma to Guerneville and then continues on You might read it as far as that part. At the end of the article, It gives the mileage from the GG Bridge to Petaluma and from there to Bodega Bay and from there to Guerneville.
We often suggest that to cross San Francisco after leaving the airport you begin by taking Hwy 380 up to Hwy 280. When you get into the city follow the signs to the Golden Gate Bridge. (280 veers off to the right and goes downtown). You will be on four lane divided streets with timed traffic lights through the city.
Thanks for the suggestions.
